How to measure a bench cushion
To measure a bench cushion, you need three numbers: the length of the bench top, its depth from front to back, and the thickness you want. Measure the bench itself with a rigid tape, not the old cushion, and round to the nearest 1/4 in (0.5 cm). For a banquette, measure the seat and the back cushions separately.

How do I measure a straight bench?
- Measure the length of the bench top along the front edge.
- Measure the depth from the front edge to the back or the wall.
- Measure the length again along the back edge. If it differs from the front, the bench is tapered: choose a trapezoid shape and give both lengths.
- Choose the thickness. See how thick a bench cushion should be.
Built-in or free-standing: does it change what I measure?
For a built-in bench set between walls, measure the opening wall to wall and send the exact number; we confirm the allowance during the free size check. For a free-standing bench, measure the top exactly and tell us if you want the cushion to overhang the front edge.
How do I measure banquette seat and back cushions?
Measure the seat first, as for a straight bench. Then measure the back cushion: its width along the wall, its thickness, and its height. When seat and back cushions are ordered together, subtract the seat cushion thickness from the total back height, so the back cushion does not rise above the frame.
Example: if the backrest area is 18 in (46 cm) tall from the bench top and the seat cushion is 3 in (7.5 cm) thick, the back cushion height is 15 in (38 cm). The numbers in this example are only an illustration.
How do I measure a U-shaped or L-shaped banquette?
Treat each run of the banquette as its own rectangle. Measure the length and depth of each leg, note which corners are shared, and decide whether you want one continuous cushion or separate pieces that meet at the corner. The L-shaped cushion guide explains the corner in detail.
