How to Measure a Window Seat Cushion
To measure a window seat cushion, measure the width of the opening wall to wall at the front and at the back, the depth from the window wall to the front edge of the seat, and the thickness you want. Send the exact numbers without subtracting anything; we confirm the allowance during the free size check. For a bay window, measure each section separately.

What do I measure on a straight window seat?
- Clear the seat and measure the bare ledge, not an old cushion.
- Measure the width wall to wall at the front edge and again at the back, against the window. Write down both numbers.
- Measure the depth from the window wall straight out to the front edge of the seat.
- Decide the thickness you want. The cushion thickness guide covers the options.
If the front and back widths differ, the walls are not parallel and the cushion needs to be tapered to match. Give us both widths so it follows the real shape instead of a plain rectangle.
How do I measure a bay window seat?
A bay seat usually has three sections: a straight front section and two angled side sections. You can order one shaped cushion that follows the whole bay, or three cushions that butt together. For three cushions, measure each section on its own and label it left, centre or right; do not measure the whole bay and divide.
Each angled side section is a trapezoid. Measure its front width, its back width and its depth, and measure the depth straight back at a right angle to the front edge, never along the angled side. Note where the angles meet, and send a photo or sketch of the bay from above.

What if the recess is not square or the sill has a lip?
Check each corner with a set square. If a corner is not square, measure the edges as they actually run and send a photo with the tape in place. If the sill has a lip, grille or trim that the cushion should not cover, measure only the usable seat area.
What should I send?
- Every number in one unit, inches or centimetres, for example 60 × 20 × 3 in (152 × 51 × 7.5 cm). This example is only an illustration.
- Both widths if the recess tapers, and each bay section labelled.
- A photo of the seat from above with the tape in place.
