Cushion Thickness Guide: How Thick Should a Cushion Be?
As a rule of thumb, seat cushions are 2–4 inches thick, bench and window-seat cushions 2–3 inches, deep-seating and daybed cushions 4–6 inches, and slim decorative or floor cushions 1–2 inches. Thicker foam feels softer and sits higher; thinner foam feels firm and tailored. In the customizer you set the exact thickness.

Cushion thickness — answered
How thick should a seat cushion be?
Most seat cushions are 2–4 inches thick. Use 2 inches for firm dining and kitchen chairs, 3 inches for everyday benches, and 4 inches where you want a softer, higher seat. Sofa seats usually go 4–5 inches.
Is a thicker cushion always more comfortable?
No. Comfort comes from thickness and foam density together. A 4-inch soft foam can bottom out under weight, while a 2–3 inch high-density foam stays supportive. For daily-use seating, choose a firmer density rather than just more thickness.
How thick should an outdoor deep-seating cushion be?
Deep-seating patio and daybed cushions are typically 4–6 inches, using quick-dry outdoor foam so they don't hold water. Slimmer chair pads for bistro sets are usually 2 inches.
Does the fabric cover change the thickness?
Slightly — a sewn cover adds roughly a quarter inch overall. If your cushion fits into a tight frame or under a table, order the foam a touch thinner so the finished cushion still fits. Unsure? Send a photo on WhatsApp and we'll advise, cutting to ±1 cm of your numbers.
Can I choose any thickness, and how fast do you ship?
Yes. In the customizer you enter the exact thickness in inches or centimetres and we hand-cut the foam to it. Every cushion is made to order and shipped worldwide with free, tracked delivery — the current lead time shows at checkout, and a 14-day perfect-fit guarantee covers the fit.
