How long do outdoor cushions last?

Long-lasting custom outdoor garden bench cushions by Foamera

Outdoor cushions last about 3–5 years on average, and 5–7 years or more when they combine a UV-stable, solution-dyed all-weather fabric, quick-dry outdoor foam and off-season storage. Cheap printed-polyester covers over water-soaking foam can fade and go mouldy in a single season. When the fabric or foam wears out, you can rebuild the cushion to the exact same size instead of replacing the whole furniture set.

Outdoor cushion lifespan — answered

How long do outdoor cushions last on average?

Around 3–5 years for typical cushions, and 5–7 years or more when you use UV-stable, solution-dyed all-weather fabric, quick-dry outdoor foam and store them off-season. Low-cost printed-polyester cushions can fade and flatten within one or two summers.

Do I have to replace the whole cushion when it fades?

No. If the foam is still firm, you can order a new cover only in fresh fabric. If the foam is soggy or flattened but the cover is fine, replace just the insert. Foamera lets you rebuild either part to the exact original size.

Why do my outdoor cushions get mouldy?

Usually because the foam or fiber inside holds water. Standard closed foam soaks and stays damp; quick-dry reticulated outdoor foam lets water drain straight through and air-dries, which prevents most mould and odour.

Does storing cushions really extend their life?

Yes, significantly. UV and moisture are the two biggest killers. Storing cushions over winter and during heavy rain, and keeping them shaded, can add several years compared with leaving them out year-round.

Which lasts longer, foam or fiberfill outdoors?

Quick-dry outdoor foam generally outlasts loose fiber outdoors because it drains and keeps its shape, while fiber compresses and holds damp. Fiber is fine for occasional-use or covered-porch cushions.
