GOOD QUESTIONS
The questions daybed owners ask us most. Anything else, the atelier is one message away.
If your daybed will host overnight guests at all, go 6" — that's the depth that sleeps like a real mattress and supports the lower back through the night. If the daybed is purely for daytime lounging and reading, 3" reads sleeker against the frame and is easier to handle. We can also do a 4" middle-ground with a feather-wrapped top — close to mattress comfort, leaner profile.
For a twin-size daybed (39" wide), three 22" square pillows along the back wall is the standard — covers the full length, gives a generous backrest. For full or queen daybeds, four pillows. Many clients also add a lumbar (14x22") in the middle for low-back support. We sell all of these as a coordinated set so the fabric and trim match the seat cushion.
Bolsters at the head and foot of the daybed turn it into a true sofa-mode lounge — perfect for when guests aren't sleeping. They're cylindrical, usually 7"–9" diameter, the full depth of the daybed. Two matching bolsters with the seat cushion is the classic look. Skip them if the daybed is mostly used for sleep and you want a clean, mattress-like surface.
Yes — covers-only is a popular option for daybeds with existing mattresses or foam slabs. Send us the foam dimensions (length, width, thickness) and we'll sew a fitted cover with hidden zipper. Standard pricing is roughly 60% of the full cushion price. Tell us the foam shape (rectangle, twin-XL, custom) when ordering.
For covered porches, solution-dyed performance fabrics (Sunbrella, Outdura) handle humidity and occasional rain blow-in. For fully exposed daybeds, you also need quick-dry reticulated foam underneath — open-cell, lets water pass through, dries in hours. Together they shrug off summer storms and pollen seasons. Five-year UV warranty on the fabric, lifetime guarantee against mildew on the foam.
Common sizes are: twin (39"x75"), twin XL (39"x80"), full (54"x75"), and the smaller daybed-frame styles (around 30"x75"). We make all of these as standard. But many handsome daybeds — vintage iron, custom-built platforms, modular — fall between these sizes. Just measure your platform top width and length, send the numbers, and we'll cut to fit.
