HD foam vs memory foam
For seat cushions, high-density (HD) polyurethane foam is the better choice: it springs back instantly, supports you upright and lasts 7–12 years. Memory foam is viscoelastic — it sinks slowly and cradles you — which is great for mattresses and toppers but lets you bottom out on a seat. Choose HD for sitting, memory foam for lying down.

HD foam vs memory foam — answered
Is HD foam or memory foam better for seat cushions?
High-density foam is better for seat cushions. It springs back instantly and supports you upright, while memory foam sinks slowly and lets you bottom out, which is uncomfortable for sitting.
What is memory foam best for?
Memory foam is best for mattresses, toppers and headrests, where slow-sinking, pressure-relieving contour is an advantage. It is not ideal for upright seating.
Does memory foam last longer than HD foam in a cushion?
No. Under the repeated upright loading of a seat, high-density foam holds its shape longer. Memory foam is designed for even, lying-down weight distribution.
Why does memory foam feel different in hot and cold rooms?
Memory foam is temperature-sensitive: it softens when warm and firms up when cold. High-density foam feels consistent across temperatures, so it's more predictable for everyday seating.
Can I combine both in one cushion?
Yes. A high-density foam core with a thin memory-foam or fiber top layer gives firm support with a soft initial touch. Message us and we'll spec the layering for your use.
